One of the ways I keep my work fresh and interesti One of the ways I keep my work fresh and interesting (to me, at least 😅) is experimenting with different starting conditions. (Once a scientist, always a scientist) Stencils, texture, collage and line work are some of the starts I’ve explored recently. This week’s paintings began by the gestural application of three colours of gesso. Allowing the wet primer to mix on the surface and create spontaneous shapes and interesting directional movement. (Oh, and unlike my usual approach, I’m also starting with a colour palette in mind 🎨) I’m excited to see how the pieces unfold! #cleanslate #gesturalpainting #portmoodyartist #watchthisspace #worksinprogress #contemporaryart
Just as people stretch and grow, so do paintings. Just as people stretch and grow, so do paintings. Like this piece. Last year I deemed it ‘finished’ enough to show. Looking at it this fall, with fresh eyes and some new ideas about ‘looseness’, shape size and colour saturation, I saw ways to add more energy and life, while simultaneously, keeping the bits that are essential ‘me’. I love its ‘second act’, as I’m loving mine, as a mid-life woman, empty-nester and artist. A reminder to embrace growth and show up as our authentic selves.
