Connected by Colour (and a collaborative painting)

Next week marks the opening of my first exhibition opportunity for 2024.

The Colour Connection” is a juried group show, featuring the work of Vancouver-area artists Alini Garcia, Roman Rozumnyj, Deb Chaney and myself.

It runs from February 7th through March 3rd at the Silk Purse Arts Centre in West Vancouver.

While we were each chosen on the individual merits of our work, our common love of colour, texture and layering led to us being given the opportunity to show together.

As none of us knew one another personally, we decided to meet up on Zoom to discuss the themes and title of the show. We decided that, in addition to exhibiting our own work, it might be fun to create a collaborative painting; something to visually tie everything together.

Each of us, in turn, added to the painting and mailed it to the next artist on the list. I loved responding to Deb’s marks and colours and enjoyed seeing the personalizations Roman and Alini added afterwards.

Here’s what the painting looked like when I received it from Deb (left) and when I sent it off to Roman (right).

I’m looking forward to seeing the finished piece at next week’s opening reception. I’m hoping you’ll be able to join us then, or catch our live-streamed ‘Artist Chat’ (details below).
