As part of my ‘Petite Paper Paintings’ project, I’ve been making colourful collage papers with my gelli plate.
While I love ready-made vintage papers and ephemera, for this project, I decided it was important for all aspects of the work to be created by hand.
I’ve had a gelli plate for several years, but before starting this project, hadn’t really spent enough time experimenting with it to produce anything of interest.
What I’ve discovered is, the more you time you give yourself to play and explore with new materials, the more varied and interesting ways you find to use them!
In response to several questions from Instagram friends and followers, I filmed a little ‘real-time’ video of my collage paper-making process. In it, I go over the materials I’ve been using, some of the techniques I’ve learned for making interesting prints and how building up prints in layers has made for some lovely and unique papers.
I’d love to hear your thoughts about using the gelli plate to make colourful collage papers. You can leave a comment below or over on my YouTube channel (perhaps subscribe to both so you don’t miss a new blog post or video 😉 ).
